Experience with compression garments and your region:

Important — What Compression Can (and Cannot) Do

  • Compression manages symptoms and can slow progression — it does not change the size or shape of lipedema tissue.
  • Compression only works while worn. Daily adherence is the most important factor in outcomes.
  • Starting with a class you can tolerate and building up over weeks is better than jumping to the highest class and stopping.
  • A clinician or certified fitter should always confirm your compression class before you order, especially for flat-knit or custom garments.
  • Flat-knit superiority over circular-knit for advanced lipedema/lymphedema is expert consensus, not yet proven by randomized trial — but it is the standard of care.

Fit Guidance (Always Read This)

  • Measure first thing in the morning when your limbs are at their least swollen.
  • If you have asymmetry (one side larger), measure both and fit to the larger limb.
  • For circular-knit off-the-shelf: match the brand's size chart exactly — do not guess.
  • For flat-knit: professional measurement is mandatory. Off-the-shelf flat-knit rarely fits lipedema tissue well.
  • If you have poor hand dexterity or significant overhangs: ask about adjustable Velcro wraps as a simpler alternative.
